Fissure Sealants at Clifton Dental Care, Cardiff

Fissure sealants can help protect the surface of a tooth from further decay. Tooth decay can start from an early age so dental prevention for your child’s teeth or during teenage years will help them keep their teeth strong and healthy as long as they can.

Food can often gets stuck in the pits and grooves of the back teeth as well as between the teeth and sometimes brushing or rinsing are not effective enough to remove the bacteria. These pits and groves are known as fissures and they can be sealed to protect the surface of the tooth from further decay deep within the fissures.

Treatment is painless and requires no drilling. The affected tooth is first cleaned, treated and dried before a resin is bonded to the tooth to seal the fissures. Once the resin hardens it then forms a protective coating over the tooth.

Fissure sealants are effective and can be as strong and last as long as a filling. Regular check-ups is required to check sealants which can be repaired or replaced if damaged.
